The city was founded in 1912 by Walter G. and Alethea H. Tolleson and was incorporated in 1929. Agriculture has been at the heart of the community, and the Tolleson’s purchased a 160-acre ranch and the Tolleson’s encouraged others to come and buy land, even chartering a train to get prospective buyers to come and view the land!
Today, Tolleson is a major industrial hub, with over 20 Fortune 500 companies, employing more than 20,000 people.
It remains a family oriented, small town atmosphere with a diverse population and economic growth!

Parks and Recreation
The City Council is committed to developing a family recreation center for the community. New amenities include: fitness center, teen room, game room arts & crafts center, gym and free public wi-fi! There will also be after school programs, summer reading activities, fitness classes and more!
The City of Tolleson Community Pool is located not he Tolleson High School Campus and is open late May to Late July – with open swim and swimming lessons!
Local Attractions:
Ak-Chin Pavilion – Located just minutes from Avondale and known for it’s wonderful acoustics, Ak-Chin amphitheater seats 8.106 under a pavilion roof and an additional 12,000 outside. The season starts in April and closes in October and has seen acts such as Billy Joel, Van Hallen, Metallica and Green Day perform on it’s stage.
ISM Raceway – Formerly knows as Phoenix International Raceway , ISM Raceway hosts two NASCAR race weekends annually, attracting spectators from around the world.. It also hosts AnyCar and CART as well as the WeatherTech Sports Car Chamopionship. It is a 1-mile, low banked tai-oval race track and opened in 1964, a $178 million renovation good place in 2017 and the venue now has grandstand seating for 42,000!
