Peroia is about 30 minutes northwest of downtown Phoenix and was established in 1886, by a former army officer who was working on the Arizona canal. William J. Murphy saw the potential for growth in agriculture, and he recruited four families from Peoria, Illinois to move out west to begin farming. Naming the town after their hometown.
Today, Peoria has a population of over 164,000 and consists of 179 sq miles
In 2019, Peoria was named the 12th city in the U.S. for green space and named by Money Magazine as the best city to live in Arizona in 2018!
